Pre-Prep I Butterflies

Last term our topic was all about mini beasts and their habitats; the children discovered the wonderful world of insects with a special interest in the life cycle of a butterfly.

What better way to bring learning to life than to watch the process happen in the classroom.

The children were delighted when caterpillars arrived, we watched every day, checking how big they had grown and watched them move around their enclosure. Soon enough they wrapped themselves up into their cocoon, called a chrysalis.Over the Easter break, the caterpillars turned into butterflies!

They children were amazed, we were able to hold them for a short time before we released them. We learnt so many fantastic facts about butterflies, did you know butterflies eat using their feet?
